Methods of deepening the hypnotic trance

Tell the subject what will happen first, so that they know how to respond to your suggestion or outcome….This is an important hypnotic principle. There are many other deepening methods and it’s fun to make up your own. Everyone responds differently so, each person will have a greater or lesser response.

Some examples of deepening methods:

Catalepsy

While in trance tell them that their arm is stiff like an iron bar. Grip them at the shoulder joint and elbow. Tell them the more they try to move it, the stiffer it gets. Say this with absolute conviction. Ask the to try and move their arm in vain. After a few seconds tell them to relax and stop trying. The arm will remain stiff (cataleptic).

Tell them that when you touch their arm, it will slowly come down to rest on their lap with true unconscious movement. As the arm comes down they are to deeply relax. Deepening of the trance being associated with the lowering of the arm. If the subject is not in a deep enough depth of trance the catalepsy will be a conscious action.

Counting:

Just count them down from 10 – 1 with deepening suggestions on their out breath. Examples being: With every count double your mental and physical relaxation. Deeper and deeper. So calm, so relaxed. The deeper you go the better you feel and the better you feel the deeper you go. Deeper and deeper with every breath you take.

Descending a stairway:

Ask them the picture or imagine a stairway of their choice and ask them to descend it. Doubling their relaxation with every step.

Fractionation:

Hypnotizing a subject, bringing them out of hypnosis and immediately placing them back in hypnosis. When done a number of times the subject will go deeper into trance each time.

Breathing:

Every gentle breath you take, you deeper into trance.

Tonality:

Relaxing tonality that matches their breathing. Using dynamics when required to emphasis suggestion.

Sounds:

As you listen to the sound of my voice, you relax deeper and deeper. All other sounds soothe you and take you deeper still.

Silence:

As I remain silent for five minutes, just keep doubling that mental and physical relaxation with every gentle breath you take.

Confirming signs of trance:

By saying that’s right or good etc (utilization)

Rocking:

Back and forth or side by side with suggestions of going deeper.

Anchoring:

Tell them that you are going to gently press gently on their shoulder to deepen them.

Arm Drop:

When I drop your arm onto your lap, you can go ten times deeper.

Rotating the head:

Clockwise as you face them, which will be anti clockwise to them and draining their energy.
